Learning the Fretboard

Learning the notes on your fretboard or on whatever instrument you play is extremely important. It will take time but is well worth the investment. All chords, scales and songs are made up of notes (thanks Capt'n Obvious) so understanding where your notes are on your instrument "turns on the lights" if you will. When you pair that knowledge with your understanding of how music works (theory) as a part of your regular practice, you will grow as a musician.

The first notes to learn are the open strings. 6-E, 5-A, 4-D, 3-G, 2-B, and 1-e.

The next thing I like to teach is the natural notes along each of the strings. One string at a time.

I've attached a PDF with the E string.
